Saturday, numbers 11-20. Grammar: What day is today? What is your favorite day? Review: T h e n u m b e r s, t h e alphabet (How do you
spell Sunday?), the colors (red, blue, yellow, green, pink, orange, brown,
white, black) Prepositions (Monday is between Sunday and Tuesday)
Teacher Monica start the class as usual with the HELLO
song, but this time with some different movements. This time children had some
faces that refer to happy, sad and hungry and they jumped to the face according
to what the song said. Children enjoyed this song and with the new adaptation.

Then,
teacher Monica did a warm-up activity with a technique that were presenting on
class, it was “spinning Wheel” in which kids reviewed the previous topics,
those topics were: Family members, numbers, colors, and spelling. I like the
activity and the way that teacher Monica developed the activity and I guess we
can use it in order to review some topics.

After that, she continued with the presentation of the
topic: "Days of the week and the number from 11 to 20”. She started
presenting the numbers from 11-17 whose purpose was just they had a little
knowledge, thereby children had the chance to call them at the time they were
completing the chart. When they took a number, they discovered a day of the
week in which they started to practice. Then,
she said the days of the weeks with by singing a song:
"Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
Saturday, Sunday, What day is today? What day is today? Friday, Friday."

I can say that this presentation was an interesting
one and I can use most of the ideas for my next classes. And according to Piaget’s
Assumptions about Children; they learn many things on their own without the intervention
of older children or adults. That was perceived in the class because kids to a good
job during the presentation, they were very active during the presentation and
that helps for the practice stage.
The practice time was in charge of teacher Gisselt and
teacher Cristela. Teacher Gisselt use a calendar to practice the days of
the weeks and she reviewed the colors and numbers at the same time. As Vygotsky suggested, the calendar is a good tool to teach the day of
the weeks because children can associate the calendar that they had at home and
make the interaction with theirs parents saying the days of the weeks in English
according to what they learned in class and I consider that is a good idea to
practice at home using objects that they had in the real world.

Then, teacher Gisselt present a train with eight
wagons, she presented one, but then children needed to their own train with the
days of the week. In this practice we can see how well the fine motors skills
work because children needed to paste the day of the week in the wagons in
order to form a train. Also it helps students to internalize the target
language and when the students finished she asked to say the days of the week
that they had in the train. I like the activity and I consider that I can use
with different topics in order to know if children acquire the target language.
After this activity, they had to perform another task with the boxes another
activity that we presented in the workshop, teacher Gisselt asked the kids to
take a balls and they threw in a box and then they said the day of the week
that corresponded to that box.

Teacher Cristela presented a missing word game by skipping
some days of the week in order to have children complete the missing days of
the week by saying aloud. I like the activity and I will use it in my futures
class because they were full of color and children had the opportunity to
review the colors with the day of the week. Also, she did the final practice
and it was painting with clay. In here students were challenge to painting with
the clay the days of the week they were also improving their fine motor skills
and when they finished painting they spell the day of the week to the teacher. To
sum up, in this class students practice their fine motor skills in different
activities and they learned new vocabulary that they can apply it in their
lives.

I consider that it is important to create activities that help to our students in order to learn quickly the content. I like the way Monica learned the topic. I like her tone of voice and how she managed students.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree with you about Vigosky theory, It is important to teach topics that are related to our reality. I consider that using the calendar activity was awesome because students practiced different topics (colors, numbers, spelling)
